transparent barriers to communication

I think married people tend to take their marriage for granted sometimes. At least, I’ve been a bit guilty of that lately. It’s not that we don’t love and appreciate our spouse. That’s not what I’m trying to say. We watched ‘Family Man’ last night, and it made me think. What would life be like without my wife? Yikes. Scary. Miserable. In the movie, John Campbell leaves his college girlfriend in the US to be an intern in the UK. He tells her that a year will never change his love for her. In fact, he claims that a hundred years could never change it. Thirteen years later, he is still single, back in NYC, and living a ‘good’ life. He tells a man ‘Everybody needs something’. To which the man replies, ‘Then what do you need?’ He smugly replies, ‘Nothing. I’ve got everything.’ (more…)

It’s that time of the year again. All the students leave, and we are still here. It’s sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo boring. I could cry. But I won’t…yet.

If I was into game systems, I would want a Nintendo DS really bad. Some of the things you can do with it are pretty stinking awesome. But mostly, I just want an electronic pet dog…

Sometimes, ‘older’ people say the best things. Most of the time, they just don’t realize how their audience is going to interpret things. Occasionally, they know exactly what they are saying, and it just knocks the socks off of you to hear them say it. Quote of the millenium: “Love your wife, love God, and keep your zipper up.” Very sage advice, but not something you expect from a very well respected ‘older’ gentleman. My wording may be a bit off, but you get the point.

A couple weeks ago, my uncle passed away. Now, don’t go crying for him. He’s in heaven, and not suffering anymore. For 21 years, he struggled with a disease called lupus. It made his life not too much fun, but he held on for one reason: he loved his family. It was not until he knew that they would be alright, that he let himself slip from this life into the next. So if you want to cry, cry for us. Those he left behind will have only memories and the knowledge that Jim is living a better life than us as consolation. Really, that’s not much to cry about, but if you really feel like crying, go ahead.

One of the other cool things that happened as a result of Jim’s timely end, is that his family was brought together once more. Many memories were recalled, and some were even relived. My dad took his sister out for a motorcycle ride one afternoon, and I’ve got the pictures to prove it.

Since this seems to be the hot topic of the week, I see no reason to deny it. Anything you post online can and will be read by people you are not expecting. Don’t post stupid stuff online, especially if it’s something you would never say to people in real life. End of story.

If you have no interest whatsoever in web design and hosting, you can just move right along. If you’re looking for a web host, I recommend dreamhost. I’ve been using them for about 5 months now, and I am continually impressed by the amazing things they do for their customers. I signed up when the base account was already pretty good. And then they quadrupled their storage limits, and octupled the bandwidth restrictions. I hadn’t really paid any attention to it before, but their referral system is incredible. They give you $97 for every person that signs up under you. If you are generous, you can pass some of this money on to the people that you refer. So here comes the gratuitous discount code: shane90. If you enter that in, you get $90 off of a 1-year or 2-year plan. If you just want to go monthly, you can enter in ‘shanemonthly’ to get a pretty significant discount.

If you are looking for hosting for a church, I would recommend checking out dream3. They offer free design and hosting if your church qualifies. Otherwise, you have to email them for pricing plans. If you don’t know much about websites and such, that’s the way to go. That’s all I have to say about that.
