I sent this email recently to urlblacklist.com and have received no response. Obviously, I don’t have to use their service, no one is forcing me into anything here, but I feel their current and potential customers have a right to know what’s going on. (more…)

  • windows xp on a second hard drive

This is just a little note to myself (and to anyone else who may have this problem in the future). Windows refuses to boot unless it is installed on the first (primary/master) hard drive in your system. For most people, that’s not too big of a deal, but I’m installing it on the second one. Fortunately, GRUB (a boot-loader for linux) has a work around for this:

    title Windows XP
    map (hd0) (hd1)
    map (hd1) (hd0)
    chainloader (hd1,0)+1

The 2 lines beginning with ‘map’ are the key to making this work.

Note: this should also work with other versions of Windows (2000/98/95), although Vista may be a completely different animal.

A while ago, Amanda’s dad gave us a whole bunch of plants for our new office. Sadly, some of them have died, since the move was delayed for something like two months. However, we are now in our new office, and the plants will do better (that’s the plan, although some of them don’t seem to be on board with the plan). The office looks like this:

Here’s our orange tree that is blooming like crazy (not sure if 8 counts as crazy, unless you’re playing cards):

And the rest of the plants (some of them aren’t doing so great):

That’s the amount of time that has passed since I last updated my site. Way TOO long, if you ask me, which none of you did. Life is progressing, ever rapidly, and I’ve obviously been busy. Busy doing what?

    • pulling cable in the new building (the LLHSLC)
      • network
      • television
      • phone
    • learning all the ins and outs of our new records software at the school
      • setting up the web interface
      • fixing permissions for people
      • giving them accounts so that they have permissions in the first place
      • helping people figure out how to do things they were trained to do (even if I wasn’t trained at all for that task)
    • helping Amanda with the Ellendale High School play (lighting, sound, set, etc.)
      • every school should have a CD player hooked up to their sound system (we’re not in the 80’s anymore)
    • learning Perl

Google just released a plugin that has simplified my life a bit more. It’s called ‘Browser Sync’, and it allows you to synchronize your bookmarks, settings, passwords, and even tabs opened between computers. Obviously, that data has to be stored somewhere. In this case, it is on google’s servers. However, no worries, as you can choose to encrypt all of your data (some items are already encrypted by default), and it is also protected by a pin number of your choosing. I like it a lot. Now I don’t have to recreate bookmarks on all 3 of my computers. Woot!
