This week was a busy one, and in the middle of it all, I killed a bee in the computer lab. It was probably more of a wasp or something, but then it wouldn’t fit in with my title. We’ve been installing new software at work, and getting trained on that which gets a moderate-high on the exciting scale. (more…)

picasa
Google just released my favorite photo manager for linux. It’s not native-linux, which is a bummer, since it could probably be a bit quicker if it was. It uses an ’emulator’ called WINE.
There were two choices for photo management in linux: f-spot and digikam. I’ve never used digikam, since it’s a kde-based app, and I’m a gnome fanboy. I hear it’s got lots of nice plugins and such, which picasa will probably never have, since it’s not open-sourced. I really don’t need much from my software except to allow me to view all my photos in one nice location, and do some basic editing. For this, f-spot would be great, except for a couple short-comings. by the ton
Yesterday, we made our annual ‘dump’ of computers. We ended up dumping exactly one metric ton (2200 lbs. for anyone who doesn’t know) of old computers, monitors, printers, TVs, etc. As we were leaving, Casey noticed a pile of bikes, and being the bike fanatic that he is, we went and took a look. He almost missed out on a Fuji bike frame, but it caught my eye, because it was orange. I just thought it looked neat, but Casey said it was a good bike, and he was pretty pumped. The truck we were driving in has no air conditioner, and the back window doesn’t close. When the truck is full, it’s not a problem, but once it’s empty, the dust comes swirling in the cab if you have the other windows open. It’s gross. Duct tape saved the day, and we had a nice cool trip back with all the windows open (except the back one, of course).

boost
We finally moved into our new house last Friday. I think I have pictures on my laptop somewhere, so I’ll have to post those. Once we have everything all painted, I’ll take some more so we can get a before/after type view of it. We are painting all the rooms upstairs, and having to pull wallpaper off in the living room, and carpet out of the bed rooms. Had been working pretty steady since we moved in on Friday, and I was wondering when we were going to feel like we had made any progress.
Then yesterday, my aunt, uncle and grandma showed up, and things went like lightning. We got all the wallpaper off (even the border in the spare room). The carpet is all gone (nice hardwood floors underneath), and the slime pit which existed under the stove is now gone. I was also able to get a bunch of nail holes patched before we finally crashed for the evening. Now we just need to paint, and things will really start looking good (it already looks a lot better).

v2
This is actually like version 3 or 4 of my site, but 2 seemed fitting since I am using version 2 of wordpress, and version 2 of gallery. Some of the links in the gallery won’t work properly, so you may have to hit the back button if you want to navigate back to a previous album. Hopefully I can get this straightened out shortly.
Also, I need to get the ‘really cool sites’ section working as well, but that should be pretty easy.
