I don’t spend as much time on Facebook as I used to. And so it’s been a while since I went to the familylink app to update things. I clicked on it today, and noticed a funny thing. I was no longer on Facebook and it wanted me to login to a totally different site. So I clicked on the familylink app link in the Facebook bookmarks pane. Now, they wanted permission to use (steal) my email address (thanks for exposing that Facebook). I said NO, and then they tried to be sneaky and get me to update my personal info, which included my email address. I entered my name, and skipped the email, then they wanted permission to pull info from facebook. It was then that I realized I was no longer on Facebook (again). I promptly went to ‘authorized apps’ on Facebook, removed the familylink app, and gave them a 1-star rating. I don’t need another site to keep track of, I don’t like giving out my email address, and I wish they would go back to being a real Facebook app where I can see all my relatives that are on Facebook. Thanks for giving us a shot. Sorry you’re so upset by our ‘poop’, but we’re hoping to make it better for everyone. Is it just that you’re not wanting us to send you email when your family puts content on the site? Or, what’s upsetting to you about communication from us into your email? How would you like to get social communications?
You picked out the first thing that upset me so much, and that’s the use of my email address for a Facebook app. I like to keep everything related to Facebook on Facebook. Not in my email, not via text message on my cell phone, not on some other website, just on Facebook. The second, related thing is that the ‘app’ is no longer a real Facebook app, it’s now just a link to an external website. Again, I have trouble keeping up with Facebook, so I don’t need another place to go to keep up with friends and family (even if there’s a nifty little link on my Facebook page). I don’t want to be sent to a secondary site for any reason, no matter how well you justify it. Just don’t do it.
Oh, but for what it’s worth, I’m appreciative that you actually bothered to respond to me rant, but I won’t really be impressed unless you take action on it.
